Advent Engineering Provides Environmental Qualification Training at Davis-Besse

Advent Engineering Services, Inc. recently provided a comprehensive three-day training session on Environmental Qualification (EQ) at Davis-Besse Nuclear Power Station. The training was provided by Advent's Dave Horvath and Dr. Rebecca Steinman. Environmental qualification is auditable evidence demonstrating that safety related equipment will be capable of performing essential safety functions even when exposed to the harsh environment effects of an accident after aging for a predetermined installed service life.

Dave Horvath noted "Environmental qualification is a complex topic because it embraces a wide range of disciplines and expertise including accident analysis, thermodynamics, nuclear safe shutdown strategies, materials engineering, equipment operability and maintenance, systems engineering, electrical equipment design, and radiological effects. Using nine key learning objectives, our training concisely integrates and discusses all of these areas."

Davis-Besse EQ coordinator, Doug Hart, said "This training was valuable because it covered not only the basics of environmental qualification but also each specific EQ Program requirement, the rationale and basis for the requirement, and how the requirement can best be implemented on a plant-specific basis."

Advent provided Certificates of Completion to all attendees. For information on this and other Advent sponsored training sessions, please contact us by phone at (734) 930-7500 or by e-mail.
