Mr. Lynn has over 7 years of nuclear industry experience in the areas of PWR core design, core and system thermal-hydraulic analysis, and the evaluation of conceptual designs and design changes for reactor cores, systems, and components. Currently, Mr. Lynn supports the design certification of an advanced PWR design in the areas of non-LOCA safety analysis and associated radiological dose analysis. Mr. Lynn also supports the development of emergency operating procedures for an advanced PWR design and the development of an LWR accident analysis code.
Engineering Consultant, 2008 to Present
Tetra Tech Advent, Ann Arbor, MI
Provides support for all Advent nuclear projects related to new reactor design certification (DCD) and combined operating license (COL) licensing. Assists in responding to Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC) requests for additional information, as well as preparing material for NRC and Advisory Committee on Reactor Safeguards (ACRS) meetings and audits. Supports analyses and design calculations regarding non-LOCA accidents. Assists in development of emergency operating procedures and associated background documentation. Supports the drafting and review of technical and topical reports on various DCD and COL licensing topics. Aids in development and review of an accident analysis codes, associated methodology, and associated input and theory manuals.
Nuclear Engineer, 2004 to 2008
Knolls Atomic Power Laboratory, Schenectady, NY
Created new reactor core designs for a pressurized water reactor. Analyzed different core designs using 2D and 3D diffusion theory codes. Generated nuclear design parameters and transmitted results to other design disciplines such as shielding, thermal/hydraulic design, and mechanical design. Generated correction factors for diffusion theory codes using comparisons to Monte Carlo. Verified and validated results of new computer codes, computer tools, and supercomputer systems. Performed validation of the depletion capability of a Monte Carlo code. Assisted in issuing and presenting major design documents to customers. Provided general and technical mentoring for two summer interns and several newer full time employees. Represented group of 45+ employees at meetings to determine computer hardware and software needs.
Research Assistant, 2001 to 2003
Department of Radiation Oncology, University of Michigan, Ann Arbor, MI
Wrote an editor program in Fortran that allowed updating of cancer treatment machine files. Conducted computer simulations of cancer treatment. Tested a new model of dose calculation for functionality. Presented data and findings to faculty and peers.
Summer Student, Nuclear Fuels / Reactor Engineering, 2002 to 2002
DTE Energy, Fermi 2 Nuclear Power Plant, Newport, MI
Improved a fuel performance monitoring program (LeakFu_Extract). Wrote VBA code that used Microsoft Excel as a front-end for running different programs. Became familiar with boiling water reactor technology. Observed daily routines of Station Nuclear Engineers.
Peer Tutor and Manager, 1999 to 2003
University of Michigan Mathematics Dept., Ann Arbor, MI
Helped other undergraduate students understand calculus and mathematics fundamentals. Worked with both individuals and small groups to solve problems. Corrected students’ tests and supervised the lab and fellow tutors.
